My sidestand switch doesn't work right

My sidestand switch was stuck on and off, causing my engine to die sometimes when I let out the clutch (and the bike was in gear). After limited success with kicking the stand / switch, working the stand up and down, and revving the engine when letting out the clutch, I finally got the idea to get down there to look at it. It's activated by a little plunger that's pressed in by the sidestand. It can get stuck "in" (maybe by road grime?). When that happens, put the bike on the centerstand (or lean it against something), put the sidestand up, grab the little plunger and pull it out... To disable this switch entirely, simply unplug it from the wiring harness, and plug the male and female bullet connectors on the harness together. The safest thing to do is to replace or repair the switch. However, if you disable it, make sure you put your stand up every time you take off. Turning the sidestand into a tripod and launching yourself into the air is not recommended. |
